NOTES ON APOCALYPSE
Object series, video, performances

The overarching theme of the series is the apocalypse in the context of global crises, and the ways people navigate these events: whether through fear or denial, routine, and labor. This persistent sense of apocalypse profoundly influences the everyday habits of today's generation, manifesting in behaviors like doom-scrolling, coping with perpetual anxiety and depression by creating memes, and disseminating them across the internet via messengers and social media as a means of escaping reality into a 'parallel' digital world.

“Despite the recurring word «apocalypse,» in the depicted scenes of the tapestries and paintings, we do not see moments of destruction, punishment, or horror. The original subjects are filled with calmness and even tranquility. The apocalypse exists only for those who choose to see it, and for those who hear explosions. For those who ignore it, it is invisible, and therefore, it does not interfere. Where there is still a possibility, people will continue to harvest crops, play golf, and open biennales. The sad truth is that corks flying out of prosecco bottles here and now are louder than bombs exploding somewhere,” the artist comments.

By intentionally employing old-school, outdated materials and techniques—such as vintage tapestries, various types of hand embroidery and beading, and wide wooden frames that were popular in the past—alongside ultra-contemporary imagery of internet memes that capture the essence of our time, the artist challenges the current state of society. The juxtaposition of these (very) old, dusty items that once symbolized wealth with elements of digital reality serves as a critique of the ongoing societal turmoil experienced in recent years, which feels like a constant, never-ending apocalypse.
