ZHABA U OK?
– a digital project realised during quarantine, when offline galleries stopped working for many months. Stuck in quarantine limbo, artists were forced to find alternative ways of working. Artistic practice existed in its digitalised extensions: artists' Instagrams and websites and digital 'showrooms'. The project "zhaba u ok?» - is an exercise of sorts, a variation of an offline exhibition at HSE ART GALLERY that was frozen due to a sudden lockdown.
"The artist uses the proposed digital space to document the life of one of her personas. Dagnini, who lives in perpetual performative mode and does not separate her domestic life from her artistic life, accurately captures the state in which many have found themselves today – a state of utter confusion, escapism, financial crisis, internal emigration, seeking refuge and answers online. Her gopnik dances desperately on stage, entertaining us – the audience, lost and dumbfounded by the cacophony of sounds and information. He multiplies. He reincarnates as a mythical gargoyle and flaps his wings. He weeps and laughs in front of the mirror, engulfed in an endless change of moods. And finally, he simply lapses into stillness as he watches us dangle aimlessly in the absurdity that surrounds us."
