The common idea underlying most of my projects can be described by the word “failure”.
Сreating objects and installations I focus on handiwork, and in particular, on practices of obsessive repetitiveness. Redrawn or hand-embroidered time and time again the computer interface features receive a new plastic and become personal, emotional, nostalgic symbols of the time.
Failure in perception is achieved through mixing the real and the virtual. The status of real objects and their perception is being changed: the physical becomes virtual, the virtual takes on a physical form.
The constant failure effect becomes both a theme for my installations and objects, and a structure for my performances, be it a violation of the usual, supposed scenario or an unexpected event.
Another principle I stick to working on performances is the deconstruction of the bodily image. When we look at the body of the other, we subconsciously transfer its image on ourselves. Looking at an unfamiliar strange body, our brain is trying to match this image with his/her/their own. Due to the irregular shape or its proportions, the perception of the viewer may fail; even the most simple technical methods cause a lively and emotional response.
Personas in my performances can also be read as a mix of real with virtual. These characters look like some images assembled in Photoshop, but at the same time they do exist here and now. The semantic elements of these personas are often a combination of familiar images: mythical animals, subcultural characters, cultural codes and clichés.
